{"id":289,"date":"2019-08-05T14:33:25","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T19:33:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.placentascience.com\/?page_id=289"},"modified":"2019-08-05T14:49:29","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T19:49:29","slug":"the-mamma-study","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.placentascience.com\/index.php\/projects\/the-mamma-study\/","title":{"rendered":"The MAMMA Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The goal of the MAMMA (<em>MAternal Metabolic Markers of infant Adiposity<\/em>) Study is to\u00a0determine how maternal fat metabolism in early pregnancy programs placental lipid metabolism and a baby\u2019s fat deposition.<\/p>\n<p>We hypothesize that obese women who have a high fat metabolism in early pregnancy will have a unique lipid profile and these lipids will act as \u201csignals\u201d to the developing placenta, programming placental lipid metabolism in early pregnancy and increasing lipid delivery to the baby and fat accrual. To test this hypothesis, we recruit healthy women and follow them throughout pregnancy, measuring their fat metabolism, diet and body composition in early and again in late pregnancy.
